Certification Begins Global Shipments of Wi-LAN's VIP 110-24 Wireless Ethernet Bridges

Wi-LAN Inc. (TSE:WIN.), an innovator of high-speed wireless data/Internet communications, today announced that its new VIP (Vine Internet Protocol) 110-24 wireless Ethernet bridge, one of the latest products in the company's line-up of broadband wireless access solutions, has been certified under the authority of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), European Telecommunications Standards Institute, (ETSI) and Industry Canada.

Wi-LAN's new 11 megabit-per-second VIP 110-24 wireless Ethernet bridge is available and certified for use in the United States, Europe, Canada, and other countries that accept these certifications, in the 2.4 GHz license-exempt frequency band.

"These three certifications are a key milestone in bringing this product to the global marketplace," says Hank Macchio, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Wi-LAN. "The addition of the Wi-LAN VIP 110-24 significantly bolsters our broadband wireless solutions line up, enabling the company to offer customers another solution for overcoming line-of-sight limitations in license-exempt network deployments."

Wi-LAN's VIP 110-24 sets the standard in anypoint-to-multipoint broadband wireless networking, overcoming line of sight (LOS) limitations using Wi-LAN's VINETM (Versatile Intelligent Networking Environment) technology. VINE technology focuses on overcoming LOS issues caused by challenging topography by allowing each VIP 110-24 to act as an access point, repeater or end-node, making it easy and cost-effective for customers to both install and extend their wireless networks.

Operating in the 2.4 GHz license-exempt frequency band, the VIP 110-24 wireless Ethernet bridge offers quick installation, low up-front network costs and robust quality of service (QoS) management features. The product is an ideal networking solution for enterprises building their own private networks and for service providers looking to offer high-speed Internet access.

The VIP 110-24 was specifically designed to operate over long distances and to provide reliable links in the 2.4 GHz license-exempt frequency band. All the electronics are enclosed in an environmentally sealed outdoor unit that is mounted in close proximity to the antenna. This configuration reduces installation time and eliminates cable loss, thereby increasing the range.

The VIP 110-24 is available for shipment today. To date, the VIP 110-24 has been sold in North America, South America, Asia and Africa.
