Spoiler Alert: “Epic” November Issue Revealed

The rumors have been flying for months. From the outrageous (some actually thought we were bought by Disney, which was quite funny), to the right on (our forums pieced together all the clues from the last issue), the time has come to lay all rumors to rest. The November cover is indeed, Disney Epic Mickey, coming exclusively to the Nintendo Wii from Junction Point and Disney Interactive Studios.

This issue is the first of our highly anticipated redesign that subscribers should be receiving around October 12th.

There are a number of other highlights, including a Skate 3 first-look, an in-depth, seven-page report on the relationship between Hollywood and video games, interviews with executives from all three console manufacturers, and much, much more.

But the biggest news is our expanded coverage online that is available to all gameinformer.com visitors. Starting at 4PM CST today we will unveil the first companion piece to the magazine: an exclusive video interview with Warren Spector about his relationship with Mickey Mouse, including a portion of his giant Disney memorabilia collection that is housed at Junction Point. We will also have a photo-blog chronicling many of the outstanding pieces in his collection hitting at the same time.

This is just the beginning of our month of Mickey madness that will unfold over the next three plus weeks. So be sure to watch our Disney Epic Mickey landing page over the following month.

We don’t want to spoil what’s to come, but we have some amazing things in store, including screenshots, animations, and tons of concept art and music.

Watch for the issue in your mailbox over the coming weeks and make sure to come to gameinformer.com for the latest updates and news.

Oh yeah, and one last thing. All GI covers from here on out will feature a full wrap-around cover. Here is the Mickey cover in all its glory. The best part, and the reason we switched to these, is that the subscriber address label and the UPC will be on the back so it no longer clashes with our wonderful cover art.

Since the last thread was ruined by, yet again, console whinging bullshit, a new thread should be made for this little bit of news. Note, until the platform for this is revealed, even a single peep about a platform preference (any of them), sarcastic or not, will net you at least a month ban.

Have fun discussing otherwise.

Amongst other non-ludological things, concept art for an “interactive game” called “Epic Mickey.”

Seems to lend some credibility to that story from late last year about a Warren Spector-developed, steampunk-themed title of the same name. I really, really, really hope this is being fully realized, or I’ll be very sad.

I'm actually really interested in this. Hopefully Mickey will meet Yemcixk that was created after he gave his heart up to save Minney because he teeters on the path of light and darkness.... and stuff.

Very interesting concept, hopefully it has hardcore gore and dismemberment, now that would be epic.

edit: This would be good for scaring the shit out of children.

Well, I'm more excited for my GI this month than I have been in a while....

Anybody know if this will be related somehow to the KH universe? Or is there literally nothing as of yet?

Would be pretty cool, but if not it will be a very interesting standalone game from the concept art.

From a post in the old thread, more stuff:

*quote starts here from cuyahoga*

Holy wow. Did some perusing and stumbled upon this one-time-Junction Point concept artist's site, and I think this is what Gamasutra stumbled upon.

This looks like a Country Bear or something after acid. File calls it a "Beetle Thing"
mm7rko.jpg

This is pretty terrifying take on Mickey Mouse, the file says "Beetleworx," and I presume this is a variation of the BWX guy in the OP.
2hi022s.jpg

File's named "Cityscape."

Concepts for the Castle seen in the OP.

Another concept

This file is named "Mean Street," which I guess is a take on the Main Street section of the Disney parks, and suggests that there may be exploration of the various "themed lands."

This one's named "Tomorrowland," and would also suggest that there that one is exploring various "Themed Lands." Maybe even space.

That beach scene the Gamasutra writer was describing. It's absolutely amazing.

So, in conclusion: THIS GAME MUST COME OUT!!! (Feel free to add this to the OP, BTW.)

It's made by a fully owned Disney studio known as Junction Point Studios, so I'm assuming it won't have anything related to Square Enix in it.

All we know for sure is that this is Warren Spector's project and has nothing to do with Kingdom Hearts.

If it's Kingdom Hearts I'll go on a murdering rampage.

Is this a "successor" in any way to the KH series, or just something completely new, or do we not even know?

Nevermind, I just was Ace' post.

So whinging is actually a British term for whining and not just an irritating reoccurring typo on the internet? Blimey.

Can't wait for this.

Give me an epic battle between Mickey and Phantom Blot, and I will be NO MORE GOOD.

Seriously! Do it, and beat Kingdom Hearts to the punch! Prove that Mickey doesn't have to have a keyblade to be "serious biz-nazz!" :lol :lol

Holy fuck that concept art looks INCREDIBLE. If the game delivers on this then I'll be there day 1 and this could be a MASSIVE hit.
