Noen ganger lurer jeg på hva andre tenker om adopsjon. Jeg tenker da på mennesker som vi treffer og som får høre om våre planer. For meg har det blitt naturlig å skulle adoptere, faktisk mer naturlig enne å skulle føde egne barn. Kanskje en merkelig tanke for de fleste. Men det oppleves faktisk slik.
Vi er trygge på valget vårt, på prosessene rundt og på at vi vil bli vanvittig glade i dette barne og elske det som om det var vårt eget. Det vil være "vårt kjøtt og blod", selv om hudfargen og DNA'et ikke viser det. Men hva er DNA, sånn til syvende og sist? En kode på en dataskjerm. En kode som ikke gjenspeiler den følelsesmessige tilknytningen vi har til barnet. Jeg er også gravid. Inne i hjertet mitt. Jeg er også hormonell og drømmer om babyer om natten. Drømmer søte drømmer om framtiden og bygger rede for vårt kommende barn.
Det er da det undrer meg når jeg hører følgende uttalelse til en adoptivmor jeg kjenner til (hun har adoptert to barn fra Sør-Afrika, og har nå blitt gravid - mot alle odds): Tenk, så godt at du enedlig skal oppleve å få ditt EGET barn!
Jeg vil bare si her og nå: Vårt adopterte barn er "vårt eget", fullt og helt. Og for ordens skyld: det har det vært fra første stund.
En annen ting når jeg først er i gang: Nei, vi følger ingen trend. Vi adopterer ikke fordi det er poppis hos stjernene i Hollywood. Det tror jeg ingen andre adpotanter i Norge gjør heller.
