Bergen
One of Norwegian techno’s main protagonists, Thomas Urv has played nearly every radio station, club, festival and illegal rave in the country since purchasing a pair of Technics at 14 years old back in 1990.
He has promoted countless club nights and major events around Norway since the early 90s, presented numerous international techno acts and DJed alongside many more. Artists like Luke Slater, Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Surgeon, Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Paul Woolford, Dj Hell, Dave Clarke, Mathew Jonson, Robert Hood, Tiesto, Slam, Speedy J, Kevin Saunderson, Oliver Ho, Marcel Dettmann, Marco Carola, Radio Slave, Ben Sims, James Ruskin, CJ Bolland, Claude Young… the list goes on to include many of the world’s biggest techno names that have yet made it up north to little Norway.
A technical DJ, Thomas Urv is known for his fast and complex mixing skills with old school cutting and scratching, as well as blending vinyl with looped digital decks. It’s unsurprising then that over the years his touring schedule has taken him all across Europe and Canada, performing at clubs such as Fabric in London and Berghain in Berlin, as well as festivals such as ADE and Bestival.
In the spring of 2014, Thomas and long-time friend Miss Mostly launched the label branch of Urv’s legendary techno club PLOINK, a series that’s been running for over 20 years. The label continues to expand with a growing roster of talented artists and has now put out 21 vinyl releases to date, with each one featuring celebrated artwork. The label’s reputation has also led to regular support with Mixmag, who recently referred to PLOINK as one of their favourite techno labels in the magazine’s stellar review of KSMISK’s fresh 'Magma’.
Thomas released his debut album 'O Sweet Exorcism' on PLOINK February 2017, with praise from the upper echelons of electronic music like Laurent Garnier, Mark Broom, Ben Sims, Leftfield, The Black Dog and Scuba.
With more releases to drop this year, you'll find him spending his weekends either DJing or skiing in the Norwegian mountain as a seasoned lover of the off-piste freeriding; a sensation replicated in his inimitable sets.
